Tremblant, PQ – January 2002 – “Operation Hardcore”

Dates: January 17th – 21st, 2002

Team Officers: Captain Jim Valentino, Captain Tom Albano, Captain Pete Thorpe, Lt. Commander Matt Wilson

Vehicles: Jeep Grand Cherokee, Airbus A19, and a Rental Saturn sedan
Lodging: Place St. Bernard

Jim, Tom, and Matt stay at Echo Glen...Captain Thorpe flying to Dorval from Minnesota...12 pack of Labatt’s Bleue....watch “Ski School” and TGR’s “Further”....minimal beers consumed due to early wake up/departure...Tom has trouble waking up, no one is surprised....breakfast at Dunkin Donuts on 17 North....Uneventful drive up....Dream Theater discussion during the trip....Matt playing Tom’s acoustic in the backseat...Matt shows Tom the “blues lick”....traditional stop at border cross bathroom...stop at Bonichoix for beers – Mmm, Boreale....check in, unpack and wait for Thorpe....snow is falling...Thorpe arrives in the evening...mass consumption begins...guitar playing...frigid skiing conditions....team buys balaclavas en masse...Tom buys new Columbia ski jacket with help from Captain Thor...Tom makes first turns on the “hot” ‘Vapor Gold’ Volant T3 Powers...skiing the trees....setting up photos at the rock jump in Bon Vieux Temps...establishing “first chair” for lunch at La Diable...bartenders now begin pouring pitchers of Extreme upon our arrival...Matt Wilson’s onion soup ass smell....poutine...drunk Canadian college scavenger hunts…the drunken seamen....Tom misses the whole thing while pulling the trigger in the hotel…hangin’ with Toufou…Tom sees the hottest girl on the planet, stops him in his tracks...first tracks on Le Edge…Thorpe riding Emotion for the first time...drunken college students knock on our door asking us to come and party with them....Jim gets humped by a random girl....only Matt accepts the offer and has arguably one of the greatest nights in PQ Ski Team history while Jim can’t find his shoes....Matt’s drunken, lesbian dance night at Petit Caribou....Matt’s drunken recreation of the story upon return to the room....Pete films the entire speech...Lambada, that’s the forbidden dance…Tom and Jim provide musical accompaniment....York, Pennsylvania?...Matt dies from hangover the next morning, starting a PQ tradition…purchasing of the Nike ACG bag…Wilson immediately becomes team equipment manager…Place St. Bernard – the best lodging yet…Jim wakes Tom by jumping on bed…Tom not pleased…Transformers in French…Thorpe nearly gets killed by several youngsters under the flying mile…Orlando’s hat returns to Canada without Orlando…Jason Peter Thorpe is officially anointed a captain of the PQ Ski Team both in an on mountain ceremony at the bottom of Emotion and at the doors to La Diable…Matthew Wilson is promoted to Lieutenant Commander of the PQ Ski Team…team departs....Thor returns to airport....Jim, Tom, and Matt suffer through a 10-hour drive home...
